New York City
Mama's Food Shop
200 East 3rd Street (between Ave A & B) in Manhattan
212 777 4425
Mon-Sat 11AM to 10pm
Cozy Lower East Side spot with good food, big portions and reasonable prices. Everything except the meat is served room temperature which is a little weird, but theere is a big microwave there for your convenience. Healthy comfort food is on offer, meat with two big sides (I had chicken with broccoli and tomato salad), and if you don't like garlic you might want to avoid this place as most of the vegetables are swimming in whole cloves of it.

Rice to Riches
37 Spring Street (between Mott and Mulberry St) New York City
212.274.0008
Open: Sun-Thu 11am-11pm; Fri & Sat 11am to 1am
Like an ice cream shop, but with rice pudding. This place is very schticky and too cute by more than a half, but the product is delicious so you can overlook it (there are puns and pithy sayings everywhere, some of which are funny). I had the mascarpone and cherry rice pudding and it was great. But there are a lot of wackier flavors if you are feeling adventurous. Your pudding also comes in a cool Ikea-ish dish that you get to keep.
